HI there,

I finally got my G5 Quad up and running. Missing WLAN and BT though, but theres no urgent need right now.
I got the Quadro 4500 in the G5. Is there any possibility to run the Tiger on my 27 inch LED via DVI?
Besides, does a "standard" DVI connection support resolutions higher than FullHD after all?

Any help?

thanks alot,
Markus

Yes it should work. He 4500 FX supports a resolution that high and it actually lower than what was available in the 30" Apple Cinema Display when the G5 was new. DVI can handle resolutions that high so long as you have a dual link cable and port.

Of course. I've run 3840×2160 via dual-link DVI and 3840×2400 via single-link (!) DVI. Not at 60 Hz, but it does work.

Yes. You need this EXACT adapter:

Here's Tiger (on my 2007 MBP) using my 27" iMac (same panel as the LED Cinema Display) as an external 2560×1440 display using the Atlona adapter:

Thank you both. Since I do not own a Cinema Display or mini-port...I think, a proper DualLinkDVI will do, right?
What EXACTLY is a dual link dvi cable? What do I have to look for carefully?
is it just the plug with ALL pins connected? Or does it have sth to do with these 4 pins around the longer one (which will not let it to be plugged in on some cards...)?

thx

The dual-link DVI cable I have says "DUAL LINK" on its two plugs. But yes, all pins in the three rows have to be connected (like on the second and fourth connector in the following picture). Those four pins on the right are for analog signals - forget about these. You want digital.
