Can a (Late) 2014 Mac Mini be used with a 4K Monitor?

I understand the 2014 Mac Mini supports up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at 30Hz or 4096 by 2160 pixels at 24Hz (HDMI).

Yes 2160p30 is supported, but I wouldn't want to use a monitor at 30 Hz.

Realistically, the preferred resolution is 2560x1600 (or 2560x1440) at 60 Hz. You can run two of those monitors.

You may also get a eGPU box with a real GPU card and go that route. I disconnected my internal IRIS videocard and got a Radeon card with 12gb storage and it blows away any internal video card. For a year I used a modest RX 570 4G and it was great till I upgraded. But remember if you are using MAC OS as your operating system then they have restrictions on using AMD cards only and only certain ones with metal if your using Mojave or later. My is using windows 10 so I have no restrictions.

Yup, works fine. I used a 2014 mini to run the 4K touch display in my classroom at native res and it worked well enough, though it clearly stressed out the system. I got an M1 a while back to replace it and it's much more pleasant to work with at those high resolutions :)
