Just wondering if I equipped my desktop mac with an Airport card, can I make it function as a base station since it is already hooked into the internet? technically, the card allows the computer to send and receive so why not? Is there an application that can configure this?

Yes, you can do this, and it's very easy.

Just go to System Preferences > Sharing > Internet. Set it so you're sharing your connection from Built-in Ethernet to computers using Airport. Then click the Start button and you're all set.

That's all there is to it.

Its a good temp solution. If you are going to do this a lot, just buy a cheap $10 router. You'll get better range and more security without having to send all data though one computer.

iSight and Internet Sharing

Also be aware that if you use your iSight or another webcam in iChat, they won't work when you have Internet Sharing turned on.

(Or at least it has never ever worked for me in the past.. the connections always fail).
