I am curious to know this:

Universal Audio manufactures its Digital Signal Processors for use in macOS connected externally via Thunderbolt 3. They also make the same equipment for use in Windows except the Windows version is connected externally via USB. I read that the USB version won't work in macOS because Universal Audio does not provide a macOS driver for the USB version. If I am given a second-hand USB version for free, is it possible to locate a developer to create a driver for me? Or can a USB driver for macOS only be created by Universal Audio?

Sure, if the developer can get the API and the box isn’t blocking access via some secret key.

The cost of a developer would likely be higher than just buying multiple new boxes for your Mac.

There could be reliability reasons to why they don’t have USB drivers. Maybe.

You could search for open sourced drivers. Just maybe someone has done this and is sharing their result.

Certainly, you can find a coder for that job, but only if your hardware has open-source or public specifications, even so, this isn't a trivial App programming work, drivers programming is among the most complex low-level coding you can get involved. You can spect a bill with 3 or more zeros for this kind of work. A better idea is buying compatible hardware anyway.

Ok thank you all for your responses. I’ve always wondered why when drivers are needed why folks who know how just simply didn’t do everyone a favor and create one. Now I know.
