Do I have to do any magic to make it unlock? back up and restore? It seems like it working on my tmobile simcard, but once I put other simcards in, phone won't read.

May I ask where did you buy your phone? The Model you provide is indeed a sim-free model. However, if you purchased outside of Apple Store or Apple.com. I.E Best Buy/Target/Wal-mart, they technically sell a sim free model. However, they are subject to what's called "Reseller Flex Policy" meaning that once you insert the sim card of the carrier you have will then be locked once you activate it. Typically there is was a loophole in this, which is if you activate it with a Verizon Sim card it will remain unlocked. But if you activate other than Verizon it will then be locked to that carrier. With the new Verizon policy, I'm not sure if that's the case, as I've read that Verizon is now starting to lock their device when they sell?

ugh, I activated with Tmobile. Do you know how long they will release the unlock? 40 days? 3 months?
