I have researched and researched, but could not find an answer. All I found was, Nintendo was working on something, but those threads were two years ago. Has anything changed? What can they be used for? Thanks a lot!

Seems it is a "once upon a time"

story. At one point they could be used as an alternative to having a wireless router by connecting through a PC's internet connection, but the company discontinued it "until further notice" after a bunch of complaints.

If you're interested in reading more on it, here's a full wiki article on it.

They can be used to power extra fan extensions, I think you might be able to connect a keyboard too it maybe also.

But, is it possible to put music on a flash drive (for example) and put it into the USB port and play the music?

Only wired though, no bluetooth?

They can be used to charge USB devices. When I was without a computer for a week, I used it to charge my iPhone. But somehow I don't think that's what you were referring to.

I use the Wii's USB ports for the Wiimote charging dock I purchased. Other than that they have no use.

Maybe Nintendo is planning to release a Wii Keyboard for internet browsing on the Wii? Not sure.

Any USB keyboard works for most areas that the Wii expects text-input.

As for Nintendo accesories that use it, there's a lan-adapter and WiiSpeak.

I was originally hoping for a USB storage solution, but the SDHC support is more than good enough and now developers are able to stream content from it.

I bet that Nintendo is planning on releasing a Wii web-cam.

sikkinixx,

I've looked, and I still can't find any duct-tape. Nintendo is just fallowing Microsoft's greed. The Wifi is ridiculously overpriced. 😉 But you're also paying for a lower failure rate. 😱

Rock Band on the Wii requires the use of the USB ports. You have to plug in little drum and guitar receivers into the back of the Wii to use the controllers. Also, the wired microphone plugs into one of the USB ports.

That's all I use them for.

They just spray paint the tape white and no one is the wiser 😉
