I downloaded the free version of Copilot live to test it out. Also downloaded the "eastern map". When I start it up all I can get is a red dot on the gray screen but the map itself never shows. It says gps signal located :determining location but never determines my location.

I've left it on for over 15 minutes. Can anyone comment about any fixes?

Does it only display the map once it locates my position? Is there anything i'm doing wrong?

i'd really like this to work as I need to travel this week and will be in a rental car with no gps.
    Thanks

Ok it's stopped saying acquiring position but no map is displaying.
It's just a red dot on a manilla colored blank map.

I tried searching for points of interest but nothing shows up in the results.

Based on the reviews, it looks like the free version hasn't been updated to work properly for the iPhone 4.

When you install the free trial of Copilot live and then choose a map from the options, you understand that you have to download that map (over WiFi or data services) directly to the phone, yeah? Did the "Downloading" icon disappear from the lower left of the screen? If not, it doesn't have the map yet. At least for me, the downloads are slow. I just chose the Michigan map (my state), which is only about 60 MB, and it looks like it'll take a couple of minutes. Extrapolating, I would expect the US Eastern map could take 40-60 minutes to download (presumably limited more by their server than by your ISP).

EDIT: This is on a 3GS using iOS 4.0... it works for me (after my map downloaded), sort of. It's able to find a destination and generate directions, but it doesn't seem to be narrating the directions to me, and I don't see any obvious way to make it do this. I did download a voice pack, and when I click the test button, the voicepack works fine.

EDIT2: To get some things working, it looks like one must go to Menu -> Free Trial -> Activate. Now, it says that I have a downloaded voice pack but I don't have enough memory to use it... Hmmm....

Yes I did download the Eastern map and the downloading icon status bar showed it downloaded after about 15 minutes.

Perhaps it's just the free version that hasn't been updated for iphone 4 yet like the other member posted?

Could be (I don't have an iP4 to test it with :p ).

I'm still playing with it, though... Here are a couple of notes:

    1) I went through and manually closed all apps using the task manager; using a free memory scanner, this seems to generate a large amount of free memory. When I went back in after this, I no longer got the insufficient free memory note for the voices.

    2) When I did this, I now had a third voice option in the list (Frank, in addition to Lisa and John). Lisa & John appear to be pre-recorded voices, and Frank is a synthesized voice. So only this third option, Frank, actually speaks street names. Once I downloaded the new voice and set it, then I can get spoken directions, but only if I tap on the directions on the screen. If I switch back to the other voices I still don't get anything from them, even if I tap.

All very odd... I think I'll wait for Navigon or TomTom to go on sale again. :p

Don't know about the free version but the paid version works just fine with iOS4. Been using it a lot recently without any hitches (did a 150 mike trip today).
