I'll need to be able to take my laptop, charger and cable with me.
Many thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed recommendation.I use a Timbuk2 Commute messenger bag. It's an old model that I picked up about 18 months ago at a great price. I was a bit skeptical of their offshore produced bags at first, but after having this one, I am very impressed. They clearly take pride in quality control and materials selection.
The back panel zips open and has padded pouches for a laptop and iPad. They're great if you need to pass through airport security, although I tend to only keep my iPad back there. Even though it's not necessary, my 13" M1 MBP goes in a Timbuk2 sleeve that I've been using since my white plastic MacBook in 2008 and goes inside the main compartment. The biggest reason for this is that I don't transport a lot of paperwork back and forth from work, and the bag balances better with the laptop in the main compartment. If I didn't have sleeve, I'd consider a cheap neoprene sleeve on Amazon. Additionally, it has a zipper pouch in the main compartment where I keep cables, dongles, power bricks, etc., organizing pockets for some basic supplies, and 4 mesh pockets (2 internal and 2 external) for water bottles or larger object that you want to keep in place. I keep a calculator in one of the interior pouches, and a few fresh dry erase markers in another.
I'm a big fan of their products. I still have my original custom messenger bag that my girlfriend (now wife) got me back in about 2005. Aside from picking up some stains over the years, it's still in great shape. I finally downsized to the one I have now, and after 18 months of daily use, it's still like new.
I have that one. It works pretty well with my M2 MacBook Air. I mostly use it in a Timbuk2 messenger bag that doesn't have a specific notebook pouch. Nicely padded.I just ordered this, from Apple:

Yes, same color but an older version probably. The cable is no problem but the charger might be a tight fit. I generally don't need a charger with the M2 MacBook Air so I don't think I've ever used the front pocket for that. The latest 2 USB-C charger is pretty small though so it might not be an issue. Many thanks.
Did you get the blue colour?
Do you think the front pouch can (comfortably) hold the charging plug and cable?

I've never owned an M1 MacBook Pro with MagSafe so I don't know for sure but it would be surprising if Apple used a different version of the connector.Thank you.
I will be travelling between my place and my nan’s place (where I spend half of the week) so I’ll probably just buy a second charging plug.
I got my M2 with the dual charger, so I’ll buy the faster charger.
I have a MagSafe cable, from an M1 MBP. Is the connector the same as the one on the M2 MBA? I presume it is?
Thanks again.

Thank you. Here are a couple interesting compact options to look at for the MBA if you're thinking of going the bag route:

Yes, the Kamp bag definitely has that classic messenger silhouette with a heritage style about it. Based on the description and photos of the materials and build, it seems pretty hard to beat from a value standpoint.Update: I like the look of the Kamp one.
Just had a look at the UK Amazon site, and it doesn't seem like it's available over here.Yes, the Kamp bag definitely has that classic messenger silhouette with a heritage style about it. The M2 MacBook Air is great. I use it every day doing Javascipt development with ReactJS and it is blazingly fast. I use it on battery all day and don't even bother to bring a charger and I leave work usually with over 40% battery remaining. It is by far the best notebook I've ever owned. Thanks for the swift reply.
Are you enjoying your M2 MBA?
What colour/config did you get?

It's not quite maxed out, 1 TB, 24 GB, and 10 Core GPU. The color is Midnight of course
Not really. Yeah it picks up fingerprints but I use it all day open on my desk so I don't see them. The only time it gets bad is if I have a lot of meetings and need to bring the notebook along. By the end of the day it needs to be wiped down but that is no big deal. Honestly, I have far more problem with the keyboard and trackpad getting noticeable finger grease.Fingerprint magnet??
Yeah, I notice finger grease on my keys, too.Not really. Yeah it picks up fingerprints but I use it all day open on my desk so I don't see them. I love the Harber stuff. Question, did you by chance have the zippered sleeve? I’m wondering if the zippers might cause scratching issues.I had the Harber London navy blue sleeve for my M1, and ordered the black for my Starlight M2. I think the leather and the Starlight finish make for a beautiful combination. However, there's no way to include the power brick, cable, et al. I put my laptop inside a shoulder bag, which has pockets for all the accessories.
Harber London's quality is top-notch, and the ship quickly ... even to the States. I'd highly recommend taking a look at their lineup to see if there's something that will work for your use case.
I did not, because I fear the same thing! Just keeping the laptop in the sleeve in my zippered shoulder bag is close enough to danger for me.I love the Harber stuff. Question, did you by chance have the zippered sleeve? I’m wondering if the zippers might cause scratching issues.
