I don't remember when it was changed to (2) but any idea why it would happen? All I did was close iTunes and reopen it since it was stuck on canceling sync.

It probably means that there are multiple computers called the same thing on your network

Sounds like one of the computers on your network is mistakenly thinking it's connected to your machine when it isn't, so it objects to connecting "again".
Have you got an older Mac on the network, perhaps running Snow Leopard or Lion?

I'd try rebooting everything, then eliminating the "(2)" from your Mac's name (in sharing prefs pane), then rebooting everything again.

It can happen if you're using both wired and wireless ethernet at the same time.

rMBP. No ethernet and no dongle lol
I just ended up changing the name in the sharing section.
