Can Apple actually test an iPhone 4 battery?

My recent iPhone purchase turned out to be a week 25. It was so dead it took about 10 minutes just to register as charging at the store!

So of course I am nervous about the battery being toast. I feel the life is too low based on all the threads I have seen.

Anyway, if I do make an appointment at the genius bar, do they technically have a way to check the battery or would it just be more discussion on how to conserve battery life?
 
If your battery's on 0% it will take about 10 minutes before it reaches about 4%, at which point the display will power on.
