I just spoke to an AppleCare tech support agent on the phone who told me that I can book an appointment with an Apple Genius at my local Apple Store to plead my case to have my Apple Watch (Series 0) to downgrade from watchOS 4 to watchOS 3. This is because my iPhone is running iOS 10, and that I cannot update to iOS 11 because of other essential apps I need to run on the phone. The watch was an used one I bought from a private seller, who reset the watch to factory defaults but unknowingly updated the firmware in the meantime.

However, I am not sure if this is truly possible from my own research. Instead, I read elsewhere that Apple Genius simply swamp out the watch with another one with lower firmware. This is not what I want.

Can someone shred some light on this?
