Can Apple TV control the volume it outputs over HDMI?

Hi. Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

I have a monitor that I would like to use as a TV. This monitor has speakers, but no remote control (no IR receiver). I would like to purchase a streaming device that would output to this monitor. I want to be able to control the volume of what I am watching using the remote control.

Can the Apple TV do this?

The Apple TV sure can do this, using HDMI-CEC technology. It’s a feature widely avaible in all recent TVs, but I don’t think it’s the case for monitors. If so, Apple TV should control volume and turn on/off your monitor. Make sure that both the Apple TV and monitor are CEC-compatible, otherwise it will not work.

The Apple TV sure can do this, using HDMI-CEC technology.

But this will control the volume of the receiving amp sitting on other end of the HDMI. aTV can not change the volume that it sends out from its own HDMI. This volume is fixed.
