Can a developer make an application to edit and change the applications that the phone come with?

What I'm getting at is if someone could create an application so SMS could be used in landscape. It seems like something so easy for Apple to do, wonder if anyone else can.

the apps are all fairplay protected, which i guess prevents sharing them, and also editing them

and rotating SMS has been discussed, and most people said that they got used to vertical typing, and that there would be no room on screen for the text messages

Applications may only edit their own directory.

I personally can't see why someone can't make an installer.app patch to change some code to allow that on a jailbroken iPhone.

But as for official AppStore stuff - no way!

How big are your fingers? Typing SMS messages in the vertical state is extremely easy. I can only guess that you're one of the people that loves typing with thumbs. If that's the case, at least I get it, even though I consider such a sin to the typing class gods.
