This question may have been asked before, but I don't see a definitive answer.

Can a current regular monthly AT&T walk-in customer upgrade to AT&T Next at an Apple Store when getting a new iPhone 6/6 Plus?

Some have said this is possible only when upgrading, not when adding a new line.

So, can one who is currently not on AT&T Next but on a regular AT&T contract get a new iPhone while upgrading to AT&T Next at the same time at the Apple Store as a walk-in?

What about if we preordered the phone with In Store Pickup on the 19th?

Apparently you don't get charged till you actually pick up the phone. Because I haven't yet been charged yet.

I originally ordered on a 2yr contract, (before I was aware about the bait and switch crap ATT was doing with MobileSharePlans)

And now I would just rather go with Next instead now that I have all the facts.

Can they do that at the Apple store?

I'm in same situation as you. What is the math for your situation that caused you to conclude Next is better?

And which Next plan? (12 or 18)

I asked a similar question but no one knew the answer. So, I called Apple on Long Island, NY. I told her that the apple website does not allow AT&T customers to upgrade to Next if they live in NY.

I then asked if I can walk in and do it at the Apple store on launch day. After many "hold on's" being surprised about the NY issue for pre-order, she came back and indeed confirmed that AT&T customers in NY and Wyoming (why these two I have no clue) may not get new iPhone 6's in Apple store using Next.

I will need to take my chances at AT&T corporate store:(

Get your phone from the Apple store, don't let them open it, and take it to an AT&T store where they can return it and reclassify it as stock, and resell it to you on Next. Confirmed this with an AT&T store manager. It will just take a long 1+ hr wait time for them to perform all of that.

I work at AT&T, we're sending a rep to our local Apple store to advise customers that they need to go to an AT&T store because Apple is unable to upgrade on Next.

Yes. You can upgrade to NEXT from an Apple Store. However, if you are already on a NEXT plan, you cannot upgrade at an Apple Store (that requires you to trade in an old phone to AT&T, and Apple is not set up for this).

Everyone else in this thread is saying yes, and you - an AT&T employee - is saying no. So you are saying Apple won't sell us a phone if we get to the front of the line and ask them to upgrade us to Next?

Which is it?

I was told by ATT who called my Apple Store while I was on the the phone: YES if upgrading an existing line NOT currently on NEXT plan. NO for adding a line with a NEXT plan.

I was told that Apple can only sell two year contracts and full price phones.

NEITHER!!!! Read my post. You are OK to buy an iPhone 6 at an Apple store using AT&T NEXT option if not currently coming off an existing NEXT program PROVIDED you don't primarily use your phone in the states of New York or Wyoming.

If you live in New York or Wyoming, AT&T customers must get their phone at AT&T unless you try the odd work around method a previous poster suggested, but not sure if he asked about the New York/Wyoming prohibition.
