Can backup be this simple?

This will be my first time needing to backup on a mac. Can I just plug in my external drive and drag and drop "Mac HD" there?

Download Carbon Copy Cloner and let it do it for you. I wouldn't try dragging/dropping the HD straight onto it.

My vote is for SuperDuper. They're probably the best of what's available considering cost, utility value, and ease of use. Look at both and make your pick. Either way you won't go wrong.

You could also just drag some things over to the external, if you aren't too worried about things being perfect.

I mean, your home directory, and maybe extra applications you installed are about all you'd need.
