Actually, I was confused before but yes I install Samsung 980 PRO NVME M.2 SSD in my MacBook air and now it's super-fast, but I am afraid about the battery life as it's a new component in my MacBook air and it might take more energy. Also, did you add any NVME to your laptop? what about the battery life after installing it on your MacBook?
 
You mean use it as an external drive? With the proper enclosure it may work fine, although the transfer speed won't be as fast as they could be if it were internal.
but in my case, my OS speed is pretty fast now also transferring speed is really great. Now I have to wait for the next update and then see about the speed. Before installing it I read this Macrumors thread also
