Otherwise, I would just use a USB flash drive.
I read several threads with people trying to solve the Open Firmware thing. I don't think I want to go down that rabbit hole.

I just noticed the info on the drive itself has Apple_Partition_Scheme as the IO Content, but the partitions do not.

When partitioning, the only options are 'current scheme', and then there's a dropdown with 1 partition, 2 partitions, etc., up to 16 partitions.

Under format, there's:
Mac OS Extended
Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Unix File System
Free Space

Looks like DVD is not going to be an option either. Internal CD/DVD is not reading disks, and my USB SuperDrive doesn't get any power from the USB ports.

I'm beginning to feel like the gods do not want me to update. Maybe I'm better off leaving it at 10.3.9. I think I'm way past the point of it being worth the trouble.

I know you said you wouldn't want to go down the USB flash drive route, but if you do, this Reddit post has a very detailed guide.

This is 100% guesswork, but what about partitioning the HD via Panther's Disk Utility (which doesn't know a thing about GUID so will use APM) and then using something like SuperDuper to clone the mounted Leopard dmg to that partition from within Panther, leaving the Mac mini totally out of the equation? This assumes you already have the dmg stored on the G5 or a way to get it on there.
