Can I burn songs purchased on iTunes and play the CD in a CD player (e.g., my car stereo), assuming that the CD player can played CD-R's?

Yes, lower right in iTunes, you will see burn, but first you need to create a playlist from the tracks you want to burn.

Cool. Even though the songs are protected, I can still put play them on any CD player?

Yes, they will play as a normal Music CD - as long as you havent changed the Burning preference in the iTunes preferences.

You may have a personal copy of your products. So that's why it is possible (and legal).

Even though the RIAA wished it were illegal to have a copy on your computer AND iPod.
