Hello, I own an HomePod mini, I was wondering how can I control it outside my home network.. for instance.. can I activate or deactivate music if I am not at home? Or if I am at home but I’m on a 4-5 G network, not Wi-Fi?
At once it was possibile by just clicking upon the device name in the home App, but now it seems no more possibile.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Michele - Italy

I don’t remember ever being able to control a HomePod remotely. Pretty sure you always had to be on the same network. Probably can happen with an automation or scene but didn’t test that.

I did find a workaround though …

I have some HomeKit cameras with two way audio, which are near the HomePods. I speak through the camera “Hey Siri, play some music” and it worked lol.

May I ask why you want to play the HomePod when not home, so I can better understand and help with your particular use case?

Hello Itinj24! Till last year I remember that the music could be stopped or started by just clicking on the HomePod name in the Home App. That was working for sure. You couldn't change any track or volume, just that. But hey! Yes! What an awesome workaround !! I have an Alexa device near the HomePod, and I have just tried with a drop-in call, it just worked !! 😃😃😃👍👍👍 The solution was there and I couldn't see it! Thanks a lot, have a nice day! Michele

It’s not an elegant solution by any means but glad it worked for ya 😁
