I tried! It isn't the best! But in my GCSE's, I can safely say I never needed to compose a poem related to a piece of leather...
Lol! Well anything apparently can happen on this forum. I applaud a job well done and so quickly, too. It is fitting that our first sonnet would come from a UK member!
I will try to help before the thread is closed. I think the problem will be a rough frayed edge after you're done. I think when manufactured, they treat the edges somehow after cutting. So you might consult with a leather shop of some sort about doing this professionally. Shouldn't be very expensive. But you have to find such a place.
Perhaps a shoe repair shop. They often handle other leather repairs, such as handbags.
That said, all the poetry in this thread is pretty hilarious!
