Macintosh HD> Libary> reciepts has a bunch of stuff that adds up to 117MB. can i delete them? are they essensial? what are they for anyway?

No, you should leave them, they are essential (at least some of them). They are used when you "Repair Permissions". And 117MB isn't very much space.

If you are tight on disk space and use only English on your computer, a better choice to save some space would be to remove nonessential files that support other languages. There are programs to do this on versiontracker.

In the long run, being tight on disk space prevents you from getting your work done and can make your computer inefficient, so you should either find ways to archive and remove large numbers of files, or plan to get yourself a larger disk drive.

You can also remove the "modem scripts" since your iMac or whatever hardware you use only uses the iMac (v90) or (v92) script. Plus its pointless if you use high speed. Its a suggestion, I have done so with no issues. :)

And you can also delete printer drivers which take up a bit.

You can customize your OS installation to exclude printer drivers and language files when initially installing OS X.
