Can I determine a location from an I.P. Address?

    Can I get a (vague?) location from an IP address? :confused:

    I searched and it said Mansfield which is near Nottingham. lol not that accurate then.

    Of course, the IP you're seeing may not actually be the location of the end user. They could be using a proxy.

    They aren't very accurate. Mine sometimes says I am in Denver Colorado near Downtown. If I use my Sprint broadband card, it shows me in Texas.

    The IP geolookup services are usually only precise to the nearest large city. The maps are just a product of typing "Denver, Colorado" into Google Maps — they don't add any precision.

    And yes, sometimes they get it dead wrong. Cells are all over the place.
