What kinds of things, specifically, do you want to block?
My child is NOT 15 - not even close, neither is the person that posted to this today.
AND, please guys, show some respect for parents and their choices. THis thread got ugly once before, and i'd prefer it to stay nice and informative/helpful.
You parent yours, i'll parent mine. Deal?
Wow... Why get an iPod Touch if your not going to use the Wifi.
I have a child that has also shown she isn't ready for the kind of freedom that the Touch would give her. We ended up going with the Nano for her - but i'm hoping to get the Touch for me "soon". I don't feel you are overthinking it at all - since i was there last month.
And, in this case, try to see it thru a parents eyes that it is a parental decision. There are a variety of reasons for it - and last time in this thread when i tried to explain them, i got 3 pages of bashing.
How about this, when YOU are the parent - you get to make the choices? Deal?![]()
This keeps coming up.
Why not? WHy not have an iPod with a bigger viewing screen? (i have 2 kids with medical issues - we can spend a bunch of time waiting on doctors)
Why not have a portable calendar? (like back when i had a Palm without it being online)
Why not have a gaming unit? (mine don't have DS's, i'd rather have an Apple device than a DS any day)
Why not have those things all in one?
I have a "smartphone" (Treo) and get online with it at the MOST once a month. I have it because i got tired of carrying my palm and phone separate. My portable brain. People ask me the same thing - why have it? It's what i need.
I don't need email or to surf on a small screen - face it, i'm old and that makes my eyes hurt thinking about it (i apparently need to go for the "i just turned 40 and can't see" eye check).
I don't think any of this is unreasonable. I'd rather spend the money on a device unit that can grow WITH my child than something they grow out of, makes me feel like i'm using the family money in a more fiscally responsible way.
Hmmm, sorry to be snide - didn't think i was. I'm just saying, respect that a parent might have a reason for what they are doing/asking. You those things you think - "i'll never do that....". Well, just wait!Whoa. No need for snide remarks. I stated my opinion; you don't have to do anything because I said it. I wasn't intentionally bashing anybody, and I'm sorry if it came off that way.
I hope they do - they got the 3rd gen refurbs. We shall see how they take care of them and go from there. 2 of the 3 getting them are young in age and development. Save the $50 you know? Those nanos are cool little devices. Enjoy it in good health.
App store games are cheaper - and no stupid little cartridges to lose! (its the clean the room before CHristmas week.... all moms are grumpy when you have little pieces of "stuff" everywhere). Should i mention they are playing their Game Boy Color right now because they have lost the 2 GBA chargers they have?Hey, don't hate on the DS!I have one, and some of the best games I've ever played have been made for the DS/Gameboys (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, The World Ends with You to name a few). And the new DSi coming out in a little while has bigger screens, a we browser and better WiFi, its own version of the app store, and the ability to play movies/music.
I do that already as part of my normal security on my wireless net.another way that is a bit harder is to block the ipods MAC address from your network so that there is no way to get the ipod to connect. click here for help
You could.can you internet share through another computer, and use that computer to have some kind of internet filtering on that will allow access similar to net nanny?
Wow... Why get an iPod Touch if your not going to use the Wifi. How old is this kid and what are you trying to keep them from?
PS: Just read that they are 15. Is this a joke? What do you think you are protecting them from.
go into your router and block the ipt mac address
