    Hi guys,

I'm a bit stressed because my boyfriend upgraded my iPhone to 3.0, and it expired today, which I wasn't expecting. He's out of the country, and I need to fix it, but it looks like the best way is to put it in DFU mode and downgrade back to 2.2. I'm worried though that by doing that I will lose my SMS messages. I already lost my contacts when he upgraded it, so I'm not concerned about them.

Do you guys know a way to prevent loss of my texts? I'm really not technical at all so the simpler the better.

    Thanks very much.

    K.

Only way is if u actually ssh into your phone. Navigate to the SMS folder and copy the database.. The. Downgrade your iPhone and then ssh into it and drag your previous SMS database into it..

Great, thanks for your help. I appreciate it. So I've looked into OpenSSH. Which should I download? OpenBSD or Portable? And when I get into it, is it quite straightforward or would I have to know what I'm doing? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.

    Cheers.

Damn. It looks like I already have to have installed SSH beforehand when it was jailbroken. Is there any other way?

Even if you do manage to get downgraded to 2.2.1, your phone is not going to work. The 3.0 OS has a different baseband firmware which will not change when you download new software. Basically, you won't get any cell signal at all and Apple will have to replace it (but they are not supposed to).

How did he get you on the 3.0 beta in the first place? Is he a developer or he knows one?

All of your text messages are backup when you sync with iTunes. Why do you want to downgrade to 2.2? You should downgrade to 2.2.1 and just restore from a previous backup.
