They should replace them, no questions asked. I have had 2 pair replaced so far..

they will replace them, but I would go with another brand and sort of headphones. Cause personally I think they go broke all the time and don't have such nice sound.

I replaced my iPod's headphones twice but that was enough. They break all the time (within a month or so) so I decided to buy Koss' Porta Pros. Much better sound and quality, still using the same pair and I bought them 18 months ago

Do you have to take them to an Apple Store?... Or would an apple retailer (say one on-campus) replace them too? o_O ... There isn't really an apple store nearby :(

If it is still under warranty you can do it online via apple support. They will send you the new headphones with a return envelope for the broken ones. This is what I did about 9 months ago...

Funny, I'm not exactly careful with my headphones, being a teenager and all but my iPod earbuds have never broken. Ever. Worn, yes, but never broken to the point where I can't use them anymore.

But do get new ones, they suck compared to stuff like Shure or Sennheiser.

an apple certified shop should do it. I bought my ipod at a computer store, with only pc's, and they could replace my ipod (however, I did bought my ipod there)
