They're definitely boring, but I was more interested in reliable.
At my age you don't want to scream down the interstate at 95.

As a matter of fact, I also considered a Buick LaCrosse. My older brother bought one and the week after he bought it it was towed to the shop and spent 2 days there. Then the aux power port (for iPod) didn't work, and needed another trip back to the shop for TWO DAYS just to fix a freaking fuse. I tried driving his LaCrosse, and it handled like an overloaded truck. The LaCrosse also cost MORE than the Toyota.

Why would I buy a LaCrosse that isn't very reliable in the first place?

The Toyota has worked with no issues for 3 months.
