Hi

This is my first post here, hopefully i can begin posting a bit more and learn more about my mac pro.

I just got a hold of an Apple Graphics Card Upgrade. The part# is MB560Z/A. It's an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT, but it's the 2006 version with EFI32 firmware (or do i call it BIOS or ROM?) and won't work with the 2008 Mac Pro... and of course my dilemma is i want to use it in my 2008 Mac Pro.

So is it possible for me to flash it (which i'm pretty sure it is) and more importantly is it easy to do and could someone tell me how (or point me in the direction of simple instructions) of how to go about doing it?

Also, I understand there's always some risk doing these type of things, but would the chance of me screwing up the card be considered minimal? Is it easy to restore to the factory default if i want to place it back in a 2006 mac (i have no plans for that, but it'd be nice to know i have that option).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,
I have the file for you. I am in the same situation but the other way around :)

I have a 8800gt made for the early 2008 but I need the 2006 firstgeneration bios.

Cant you make a backup from your card and send the file to me ?

Give me your email and I send my file to you.

ciao

theres a thread somewhere here called "8800gt efi64 rom" It may help you.

Thanks. I did a search and was able to find this thread :

Unfortunately it seems i have to have a windows system to boot from to flash my card (which at the present time i don't). So i'm out of luck until i can find a windows xp install disc.

Or so i thought until i saw this thread :

I'm not sure if this will work. I guess i'll have to play around a bit....

Just out of curiosity, where are you located? Maybe we could save each other the trouble and just trade cards (if you happen to be in the toronto area..)

I've never flashed a card before, so i'm not familiar with dumping ROM.

Did you try searching through this thread to see if the rom has been posted?

I too have a 8800gt made for the early 2008 that I need to work with 2006 first generation bios. If anyone could help me that would be great!

Want to sell it?
