I really like the stack order that folders show from the dock. However, I can't seem to mimic it in the finder window of the same folder. Logic (to me) says it should be sorted by 'date modified' but that doesn't replicate it. Is it possible?

Cheers to anyone that can help.

It depends which order you've chosen for the stack. Right-click on the stack and select "Sort by" and choose which field you want. You can get the same order in Finder by clicking on the column headings.

Hilarious but easy. Thanks! I was showing downloads in the automatic (?) "date added" order.
