At the time being I am an international student from Norway living in the US. In my physical SIM-slot on my Xs is my Norwegian SIM-card who gives me free international roaming as well as texts and calls. To call text/within the US, I use Google Voice/Hangout and their free service. The advantage of this is not having to pay for double data etc, but the disadvantage of this is not being able to register with services such as Venmo, because the Google Voice number is recognized as a landline number. Is there a work around or another way to get this working?

Venmo sees GV numbers as VOIP and I'm thinking that their security requirements are blocking you. Other VOIP type services, even some actual cellular services like Republic, have the same issue.

What might have worked is if you had an actual US cell number, set up the Venmo account, ported the number to GV for $20 and then canceled the cell service. Then again...it might not work. Venmo might detect something that would cause an issue.

That might be the best solution. That way I don’t have to keep paying for the number and only pay Google once for the transfer.
