I know in Preview, when I make a mask, the background doesn't disappear but gets darker. If I try to do that in Keynote, the background disappears and I can see is what's inside the mask.

Is there any way to do this in Keynote so that the background doesn't completely disappear, but like Preview, just gets darker?

Not sure what you mean. I just put an image on a slide then reduced its size by masking. If I click away then click on this image it only shows the masked part. If I double click then I can see the entire image with the unused parts shown darker.

Am I missing something?

I didn't know to double click. I'll try that. Game changer!

So I actually think that's not a solution. I double clicked and it went grey....but that's cause it thinks you're resizing. There was a button I had to hit saying "Done" and it wasn't saving as greyed. Was it different for you?

Thanks for helping on this....
