I know that i can hide sections like Applications which includes 3 different forums (i think). But what if i want to hide 2 of them and keep one? Is that possible?

The only place you can hide forums from view is in the Forum Spy. Anywhere else, you cannot.

You can also block forums from appearing in New Posts by adding the forum number in User CP / Edit Options.

I always forget about that link in the menu bar.

I think it's linked to the Spy preferences. I've never manually added forum numbers to the User CP and and checking the New Posts button, all of my Spy hidden forums are also hidden there.

Interesting... can you look in your edit options and see if the excluded forums are listed there? I entered all these manually, but it they can be managed by check/unchecked spy options, that sure is easier.

Blocking a forum in spy options doesn't add that forum to Edit Options, you still have to add the forum numbers manually.

SBG seems to be saying if he blocks a forum in spy it also blocks it from show new posts. So it would seem deleting the forums from edit options where I have it and using the spy interface to add/remove forums from show new posts would be much easier to manage. Or am I missing something?

I've just run a test and blocked a few forums in spy preferences and it didn't add the forum numbers to the Edit Options list (or block the posts in New Posts).

Thanks... seems SBG was mistaken then. I got all excited for nothing. :D

I've tried adding (unchecking) forums to hide in Forum Spy, they sometimes go hidden for that session and sometimes not - but without fail, the next time I visit MR the checkboxes are reset, and those forums show up again. Anybody know why?

It is a bug others are experiencing also. I don't think much effort will be expended on minor issues like this since the site is in the midst of migrating the forum to a new platform.

I'm finding the bug annoying too since I am unable to hide the Apple Watch stuff from the Spy.

Hiding the Apple Watch sub-forum has worked fine for me, the annoying part is that I'd have to hide the entire "MacRumors.com News Discussion" sub-forum to stop the spy from being overwhelmed by Apple Watch related threads.

Thanks for the explanation - how is the migration progressing?

Oh, yes. A heartfelt amen to that sentiment. My sense is that it resembles some sort of a feeding frenzy over there…..

I don't have a date either. But I know that arn is focused on getting this transition done now that he's not traveling every other week like he was in March and early April. We should be getting pretty close.

I don't have anything as far as a date, but I've asked the admins for an update.

Thanks for the responses; no need to rush or hurry the planned migration.

I can only assume that he would prefer that it is done properly rather than adhere to a self-imposed arbitrary deadline where errors can creep in, and the stress of a deadline can overwhelm the calmest of individuals.
