Before y'all say to just send emails, let me remind you that people often want real faxes since you can send legal documents via fax. PDFs don't meet this requirement.

Not true.

http://www.standardlegal.com/blog/a...documents-legally-enforceable-and-acceptable/

If PDFs had no legal bearing or enforceability, there would be a lot of corporations with digital document archives who would be in serious legal trouble right now, including many large law firms. And the very foundation of e-commerce would be nullified.

In the few cases where PDFs are not legally acceptable, Faxes are equally not accepted. In those cases, they want the original signed document, in which case only in person delivery or FedEx/UPS/USPS will do.

It's just beeps and warbles. It shouldn't matter to the machine on the other end.

Actually, it does. Those "beeps and warbles" were intended specifically for analog lines. The compression used for voice calls on CDMA/GSM/UMTS wireless networks will pretty much make a fax signal unrecognizable. The same would be true if you tried to connect an old 56K modem to your cell phone... it just doesn't work.

Fortunately, modern wireless networks have far superior solutions to analog modems: HSPA+ and LTE data to name a couple. Likewise, the modern world has superior solutions to faxes: namely, scanned PDFs, which DO in fact have the same legal bearing as a fax in most cases.

you would think with Steve jobs infinite wizzdom and the all the bluetooth and wifi devices he would include faxing in the Iphone , itouch and ipad

Actually, I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs' not including fax capability was a wise decision. Much like it was a pretty wise decision not to include a 5 1/4" floppy disk drive.

In any case, we debate the merits of fax all we want, but there is no modern cell phone - iPhone, Android, Windows, Blackberry, or anything else - that supports fax. It's an antiquated technology. It's time to change your process to be more in tune with the late 20th century, if not the current century.

Stop doing business with people who use faxes. Once they all go away, we'll never have this problem again.

Oh Jessica, getting pulled in by a necro-thread...

 The post that revived this and brought it into the forum spy was clearly omitted by the moderators. Not sure why you care one way or the other, but just relax. It isn't that big of a deal.

While it's impossible to "stop doing business" with those people who use faxing for security reasons (e.g. the government, attorneys, realtors, medical professionals, and many others), you can -- as others have noted -- use online fax services that have apps to solve this conundrum.

eFax, MetroFax, MyFax, and RingCentral are all decent services that offer high quality iPhone apps. Check out all of the top services that include iPhone apps, here on FindAFax.com

People are making jokes, but if you've ever had to deal with the state, local or federal government or businesses run by really old people then you likely have had to fax something. The world isn't full of nerds like us :)

OP, just look in the App Store and use one of the faxing apps. If none of those work for you, I use FaxZero.com. It's free for up to 3 pages or like $2 for larger faxes. You just upload your document from your PC (or pic from iPhone) and send it. Really easy and reliable.

Bought and sold 2 houses and a business in past 2 years. Did email for most of it. No access to fax machines.

Scan, email.

I also dealt with a house sale and purchase via email however I do a lot of contracting work for the gov and a fax machine is a requirement.

It's somewhat archaic but a lot of places still require it.

these days you just scan/take a photo of whatever you want to send and email it.

The OP obviously needs to fax something. So why all the crapping.
Regardless of what you do how important you think you are he didn't ask for business advice simply some way to fax using the iPhone.

I really need faxing capabilities, but I don't want to pay $25 a month for a land line. Is there a way to hook up a fax machine to the iPhone? Before y'all say to just send emails, let me remind you that people often want real faxes since you can send legal documents via fax. PDFs don't meet this requirement. Also, it's way easier for the person on the other end to receive a a real fax than a PDF that needs to be printed. I saw that eFax site, but the magic smoke must have come out of my scanner at some point, so i would still need to buy a device and a traditional fax will work way better. Plus, it appears that the free eFax account won't allow me to send faxes, which is more critical than being able to receive them.

Who still uses fax? It's an archaic method. Turn papers into pdf's and email.

Lots of places. For me like I mentioned it's 50/50 with the federal government and 100% with my local government.

Also recently and most notable I've been dealing with a certain large health care provider and they accept fax OR postal mail on certain forms.

Tell them it's a huge waste of tax dollars and you will only use email. It has to start somewhere!

;)

Oh I agree. I'm just lucky to hear back from a lot of these people so I'll use whatever means they want. Lol

I think Efax or some service like that is your only option short of a phone line.

The OP was posted 6 years ago, so I assume by now he's already figured out how to fax something.

I haven't LOL. It would be super useful if someone reputable would offer an online fax service. A Microsoft or Google or Apple-I'd be fine paying for it, but just something you could probably trust.

I think a LOT of people would pay for/make use of something like that as most people probably need to fax stuff from time to time, but either don't have a landline, or don't care enough to buy a fax machine (although come to think of it, Windows can still fax, IF you have an analog modem and a landline...)
