Absolutely, you'll be able to choose any color and any configuration, and I bet you won't have to wait long at all!Just check online via Apple Store app and non of Apple Store in all Bay Area ( home of Apple ) got it instock .
So will be any luck if I just walk in to Apple Store and buy instead of reservation online ?

Meanwhile, Apple just sits on pre-orders as if we're less important than filling retail channels.
Vehemently disagree. In years past Apple has done right by pre-order customers and not de-prioritized them over shipping in-store inventory. Last year Apple did not ship a single 7 Plus to a store until they had begun to fulfill their pre-order obligations. It's not as simple as pulling stock that was to be sent to store and shipping it to pre-orders first. This is all planned well in advance of the launch. Plus, they want to draw people into stores to sell more of their other products.

This year, not only has Apple greedily diverted inventory to stores while orders are waiting to be fulfilled, they've even ignored first come, first serve within those orders so as to advance IUP orders ahead of customers who have elected to Pay in Full or use AT&T NEXT, so as to avoid another class action lawsuit like last year.
A true analysis of what they are up to this year yields really disappointing, unethical, un-Apple like behavior. I've pre-ordered every year for the last 4 years and never seen anything like this.
But when you ordered, Apple promised you a delivery date. Unless they miss that date, they are not doing anything wrong or unethical. You have options of where to buy, you should choose the one that best fits your needs.Vehemently disagree. Just buy it in store then if it's readily available and your pre-order hasn't shipped yet.
Me too. Got one on Lauch day. Pre-Order the same as yours. Weird......Well put, I couldn't have said it better myself.
I was in the November 17-24 delivery range, canceled my pre-order Saturday, placed a new order for in-store pickup, and had my phones an hour later. Pre-orders this year were an absolute joke.

I just checked my area (Philadelphia area) on apples site and "the 12 nearest stores" have none of the models in stock.
I got mine at the City Line Ave Verizon store - on launch day -- at 2:30 in the afternoon. I had preordered via Verizon, with delivery due Dec 1st (so I just cancelled that). Verizon store on City Line was quiet -- normal day. I couldn't get my first color choice -- had wanted space gray 64 GB. Ended up with silver 64 GB. I'm fine with that.
So maybe try your carrier store.
that's not true at all. they did this last year and always do this. of the last 3 releases, i only pre-ordered one of them but have always managed one on the saturday of opening weekend. two years ago i did just by going to the store when they opened. last year i reserved at 7+ for instore pickup the day after launch just by watching istocknow's inventory map. quantities are super limited, like just a few phones. it's not like anyone can just walk in and grab one. you have to hustle and get lucky.Vehemently disagree.
