Next time I take my Audi in for repair, I'll just try to keep the loaner they give me... because I'm too lazy to go get my original car back. Let's see how this pans out! ;)

Took my sleep/wake broken iPhone 5 to the Apple Store (terrible experience) and got a loaner phone. I don't want to go back up there since it isn't exactly nearby.

Has anyone just kept their loaner phone & not picked up their "fixed" iPhone?

If so, did you have any issues with it?

I haven't went through the Sleep/Wake button service, but I think my only concern would be whether or not the phone is tied to a Find My iPhone account; I assume loaner phones are used, and have been a loaner phone to someone else previously.

If it is disclosed in the terms you signed prior to accepting the loaner car, and it states you may swap cars, I see no reason for legal dispute later on. I'm certain you will still be bound to fulfilling your original financial obligations with your bank or lean holder, if any apply.

OP, I have kept a loaner phone and nothing happened to me. I was living in Hawaii at the time and the nearest Apple store was an island away.

Actually, I know. Because I kept a loaner 5 with no problems which I sold via Craigslist.

Thanks, this is the information that I was looking for.

The loaner phone was wiped, so there was no information on it. I don't think it has been used in a while, because it still had iOS 7.1.2 on it. It looks to be in good condition, no scratches or anything.

I was planning on selling my 5 and getting a 6, but they wouldn't let me trade it in at the store, I was told that it would have to be fixed first. I'll just sell this loaner once my 6 comes in.

Thanks for your help.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it right.

Wow... you come onto MACrumors, an Apple fan site, and ask if its okay to steal an iPhone?

OP--I would just keep the phone. It would be nice of you to call the store and tell them that's what you are doing so they don't have to store your phone forever (I'm sure your phone will become the new phone)

I told the lady that was helping me that I just wanted to keep the loaner. She wouldn't give a straight answer to whether I could or not. I pointed to the part of the agreement about keeping the loaner if you fail to pickup your own, but she just told me that I had to "abide by the agreement". They will only keep your phone for 14 days, after which they will dispose of it.

When the store calls me next week, I'll tell them I won't be coming to pick it up.

Keeping the loaner phone is pretty much the same as their express replacement service. Besides, for Apple, it's practically a 1:1 exchange that's why they allow it. Part of the reason Apple products are so expensive is because of their excellent customer service. Maintaining their brand image through advertising, customer service, warranty, etc is already factored in as a cost of doing business. If I'm paying $650-950 for the phone and another $100 for AppleCare+, I'm not going to go out of my way to inconvenience myself due to some moral high ground.

The stupidity in this thread SHOULD amaze me, but it doesn't. OP asks a simple questions, which is the intended use for a FORUM. People accuse OP of doing something he actually isn't doing (STEALING). OP Provides WRITTEN LEGAL DOCUMENTS PROVIDED BY APPLE to prove what he is doing isn't ILLEGAL or STEALING. OP simply wants to make sure that in the future, he won't encounter any issues with keeping the loaner. OP ASKS OTHERS TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SAME SCENARIO. Then the STUPID CROWD continues to rant and rave about an issue that doesn't even exist.

Sometimes I am quite ashamed to be an American (and yes I am assuming the idiotic responses in this thread are from my fellow Americans) with how stupid people in this country are.

Exactly. If the OP had returned the loaner, Apple could never sell it as new (even if they were still selling the iPhone 5) -- they'd just use it as a refurbished loaner for the next guy. They can take the OP's original phone, refurbish it, and do the same thing with it.

In fact, I suspect that all of these "loaner" phones that people get late in the lifecycle of the phone were either returns or defective phones that Apple refurbished.

^^this.

I like how the OP turned the tables on everyone with the legal agreement. Best thread I've read hear in a while!

Op the title of this thread is Can I keep my loaner iPhone 5? You knew the answer already.

Criticize someone without knowing all the information, then when your wrongness is revealed (respectfully by the OP, actually), deflect that entirely by making up a new reason to criticize them.

Just wanted to chime in and say hahaha.

My thoughts exactly.

Hmm I didn't even realize they did loaners. I've swapped out quite a few idevices for button failures and they always replaced on the spot.

Oh and in regards to the controversy here-- to be fair OP the title of your OP was could you keep the loaner...but you already knew the answer to that question. People still should have read the thread but just saying...the misleading title didn't help your cause. I learned something new today though!

E.L.E.

Everybody Love Everybody.

It'll be fine. I was at the store with a friend when he was told by the tech (who also took the time to point out that same section in the contract) that Apple is completely fine just treating the situation like an outright swap. I have friends that work there and they confirmed that is really is no big deal at all.

No, I wasn't asking if I could keep the loaner. I was asking if anyone else had done it, and if they had any problems.

Uh Sir, your OP title says this verbatim: "Can I Keep my Loaner iPhone 5?"

I suggest you either change the misleading title of your thread or apologize for making the mistake.

Need a New Loaner

Looks like all of this discussion is for nothing.

The microphone on my loaner iPhone doesn't work. On phone calls, people can barely hear me. I can record voice memos without issue, but the microphone doesn't work properly on phone calls.

The phone is pretty useless as a phone, so I have made an appointment to get my loaner replaced tomorrow.

mine was done through mail so I didn't get a loaner. I remember reading, a few keeping their loaner because it was brand new (outside). I would have kept my loaner also if it was functioning properly.
