Can I leave my firewire connected?

Today's Dumb Question: After I shut down and disconnect my target drive or device, is it OK to just leave the other end of the firewire cable hooked up to my computer? I don't see it doing any harm, and it's easier than reconnecting it every time....
 
The only problem you might have is getting a short if something gets stuck in it....so just don't stick it in your paperclip bin. 😀
