My spouse and I both have iPhones.

We use 1 apple ID for the iTunes store.

She has a different apple ID for iCloud.

If her phone was lost could I use her apple ID in the find my iPhone app on my phone to locate her phone?

Is the app separate from the find my iPhone setting under settings/iCloud?

If they aren't separate could logging in using her apple ID on the app on my phone mess up my phone/settings/iCloud, etc?

    Thanks.

What you can do, is put your apple id into her phone and only enable find my iPhone. Makes it easier, since you only have to check one place for all devices.

You may put her Apple ID in the Find My iPhone app to locate her phone and it is separate from everything else. Your scenario describes what I've done for years and iCloud hasn't changed any of it.

If your wife is also on iOS 5 you could also use (or use instead) Find My Friends.

yeah find my friends is really cool because you can both see each other. Nice to know if someone left work....you should be able to set an alert for when friends leave and arrive at geofence locations.

HI, I have enabled find my friends.

I was just thinking of a scenario where if her phone was lost and i had to find or remote erase it quickly and wasn't near a computer to use icloud.com i would want to do it on my phone.

    Thanks for the info.

If you install the Find My iPhone app on your iPhone, you will be able to put in your wife's iCloud AppleID/PW and be able to track her from the Find My iPhone app installed on your iPhone. (This assumes she has Find My iPhone enabled on her iphone).

In addition to tracking the location of wife's iPhone, the app will allow you to Play Sound, Send Message, Remote Lock and Remote Wipe...all from your iPhone.

As for surreptitiously spying on your wife's whereabouts at anytime causing any problems...well, I suppose it depends on whether she catches or not.

you can do that, but for me, having 3 macs, 2 iPhones, and 2 iPads, it is a lot easier to have it all in one account.

+1, my wife and I both use the same ID. We don't have to both buy the same apps that way.
