Can i procede ? iPhone 4 - 4.3.3 to 5.0.1

hi guys I was about to gamble on my iPhone by upgrading .. then I thought macrumors!

these are my specs :

iPhone 4 ... 4.3.3 ... 04.10.01 ... jailbroken by : jailbreakme

can I upgrade it simply by iTunes ? or do I need redsn0w ? and if so link me to a guide?

If you dont care about an unlock or turbo gevey sim you just update or restore to 5.0.1 and then use redsnow to JB it.
That's it.
Make sure you activate the phone after its done restoring and you can get into the homescreen. Then use Redsnow to jb it.
 
So there is no risk of being locked or bricked ... I just learned those terms :D
 
Locked? Unless you have a factory-unlocked iPhone 4, you are already "locked" to your carrier with your current baseband version.
 
nope its not locked ... then its got to be a factory unlocked phone .. right ?

then I presume I am safe to upgrade ?

What about my payed apps like iBlacklist, MeZeZe? Will i be able to get them back and do they work with iOS 5.01? And my game saves, what about those? The phone is JB'en with 4.3.3 and unlocked from factory, what are my options? I dont care about the BB really as i have a subscription with my carrier. but if i backup my phone, can i use the backup on the new iOS 5.01?

You can download your paid cydia apps again after you restore and rejailbreak.
They're tied up to your facebook or googleID login with cydias server.
Not sure if all packages have been updated and work fine on 5.0.1
You will have to do some legwork and find out for yourself.
And yes you can just restore to official 5.0.1 since your iphone is factory unlocked, you dont have to worry about ever losing the unlock. And yes you can restore from your previous backup with itunes if you want.

Also i have some payed Themes as well as apps, but not sure if they are IoS5 compatible yet, but i'll have to find out. About my gamesaves, i think i'll back up my phone first, and then upgrade to 5.01, and then run RedSnow and jailbrake again, and re-install my payed apps and themes. But restore from a backup would be even sweeter, if that really works, i wont loose my gamesaves either, right?

Yes, all your game progress will transfer when you restore from backup on itunes.
 
guys i have a problem !! :confused:

I did everything backup - then iTunes downloaded the 5.0.1

but when it tried to restore an error happend ! it says :

"the iphone "iphone" could not be restored , an unknown error occurred (21)

what should I do ? :confused:

btw : I downloaded the latest version of iTunes ... and my phone is lighting up the black screen ..

I did to 3 times now and still the same problem ... I am such a n00b :(

what is this "Files" ? and how can I change it ?

I managed to learn more about tinyumbrella and did the unchecking and clicked on the exit recovery ... so I am back to squre one ..

I am so sorry for being a hard costomer ... but plz bare with me

what now from the start ? can u explain more simply pweety pweez :)
 
Here is what you need to do;

1. Open tiny umbrella, click on advance tab, uncheck 2 boxes ( Set Hosts to Cydia on exit & Request SHSH from Cydia), close tiny umbrella, restart your computer.
2. Open Itunes,
3. make sure your phone hook up to your computer, put it into DFU mode.
4. Itunes will detect it as it is in recovery mode, click okay, the click restore.
5. Your phone should restore okay after this.

updating from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1

HI, i have an iphone 4 version 4.3.3 (8J2) firmware 04.10.01 and its been jailbroken, i want to upgrade to the new version and wanted to keep my phones apps and cydia sources. could be kind to guild me through this ADVENTURE LOL also how do i backup my iphone before restoring it??
