Can I reinstall/reload original preferences?

My Finder was freezing so after trying several options I signed in under a new admin account and deleted plist and preferences. I've now discovered and fixed the problem and it was NOT the preferences. How can I reinstall/reload/redo to get them back? I tried to copy them back and they were copied but didn't take effect after a restart.

Is there anything I can do?
