Hi Forum,

I was clearing some space from my hard drive and I noticed the folder /System/Library/Speech/Voices/ being about 600 MB in size. Inside, as you might have guessed are the voices from the voice over function.

I never use this, and probably never will. Can I remove the contents or will this mess up my system somehow?

Thank you!

You can remove it. I would perhaps leave one voice, just in case Speech gets activated, so that it has something to fall back on.

However, I would advise caution if you are going round the system looking for things to delete.

The footprint of OS X is around 7 Gb. Maybe a little over 10 Gb with iLife/iWork, etc.
The amount of space you can save by SAFELY deleting stuff in the system is minimal, compared to the size of most storage volumes.

For the big space savings, you want to look through YOUR files and YOUR apps. :p
