Since if you ordered it through apple.com, yes you can initiate the return, you get an e-mail with the shipping label (Fedex if US, at least where I am it's Fedex, or UPS). You box it up, and send it back.

Ok great! I would just drop it off in a Fedex drop box or get a fedex guy to pick it up!

If I were you, I would avoid the drop box and the pick up. I would rather take it to the Fedex Ship & Print Center and drop it off there and ask for a receipt. But that's me though. You do whichever is convenient for you

For something of that value I would drop it off in person and get a receipt. You’ll have something to prove you dropped it off, in case something were to happen in transit back to apple(stolen,lost,damaged).
