Why Apple charges a restocking fee is beyond me. They already have the shortest return policy, so I don't quite get why they insist on dinging people with a restock on top of it.

Step 1. Sell defective merchandise.
Step 2. Charge 10% restock fee when customer returns item. Box it up and sell again.
Step 3. PROFIT!!

Just kidding. ;)

That's cool...did you reference the screen thing (which could be classified as a defect), or was it for any returns? Their web page says a restock fee applies to portable electronics.

If so, I'm gonna order an 8GB tomorrow. My 16GB with bad screen is going back to Best Buy, and I decided 8GB and $100 works better for me. A few movies and 100 albums is enough for me.

I did return a portable DVD player once to Target that was actually broken, and they didn't charge me anything (I was expecting to pay the fee.) Seems like a loophole for the less scrupulous, but in my case the player really did break.

Actually I called my local Super Target as well as one of their online CSRs and both assured me no restocking fee.

Seeing as I got their names I have a feeling Target won't harass me about a restocking fee if it came to that.

No, I just told them that it was a gift and I wasn't sure if the person was like it. Since technically it's a gift to myself and I'm not sure if I'm 100% in love with the touch I don't feel that I was misleading them.

In any event they didn't seem concerned about a restocking fee of any kind and as I said if you're concerned about this get the names of the people that tell you there won't be a restocking fee and you should be covered in any event.

Thanks. I went ahead and placed an order for an 8GB. It won't ship for awhile anyway.

With free shipping, 4.4% Fatwallet cash back, and the 10% coupon, the price came to around $255 plus tax, that's pretty sweet!
