Can I safety charge MBPro M1 with a Power Port (Anker)?

Hy guys,

I would like to buy a multi ports charging station for all my Apple devices at home. I also own a new MBPro 13 M1. I use to charge my MBP apart with his charger but would be amazing if I can use a multiport charger and so I start investigating and found this one from Anker.

What are your suggestions about it? Is it worth it? Do I risk something with the battery of my MBPro?

What comes up in your Amazon link is an Anker 30w car charger. Is that the device you're asking about? It might work but it's very underpowered compared to the 61w power adapter that came with your MBP. That type of adapter is intended more for tablets and phones.

Ehm what do you mean by that? It’s a 60W charger the Anker one and the new MBP M1 have a 61W charger. It will be ok if I charge it with this Anker product?

Yes. They are very nearly identical. What I meant about volts and amps is that any charger that delivers the required voltage at an amperage the device can accept will work.

Also if you take a look at the non-Apple power adapters compatible with the MBP M1, you'll see a mophie powerstation pro XL battery that's only 45w. Apple is saying that's ok to charge your device, so the Anker device should be ok too.

I have been using an Aukey Omnia 100W 4 port charger - two USBC-C and two USB3. It's been working great for travel for my M1 MacBook Pro and my wife's M1 Air plus various iDevices. I guess Aukey was one of the companies that got banned for mucking with reviews. Physically the device looks very much like this:

You can even charge your MacBook with a phone charger, it will work abs is perfectly safe as long as the charger supports USB-PD. If you use a smaller charger, the computer will charge slower and might have to fall back on battery if you are doing anything energy-intensive, but that’s about it. You can’t damage your computer this way.

I routinely use my 15W iPad charger to top up my 16” MacBook Pro on the go and the 90W Mac charger to charge my iPad at home, really no worry.

Just be aware if you have anything plug into the second port (even a cable that is not charging anything) the charge rate is cut to 30W per port. But usually that's more than enough to charge my iPhone 12 pro max at fully speed and charge my M1 MBP.

Given the choice I’d always go for the Anker option, even if it did cost more. I’ve always had great service from them and they have an excellent reputation that I’m sure they are keen to maintain.

I was able to charge my M1 MBP off a Windows laptop using just a USB-C to USB-C cord. Needed to use both computers at once for a meeting, and I needed to at least minimize battery drain on the Mac since the room I was in had no open power sockets to use. Left the Mac connected overnight after the meeting and when I checked the next morning, the battery had been charged to 100%

He means that USBC charging is pretty flexible. The rating on the supply is an "up to" as in it'll supply what the computer asks for up to that maximum limit of whatever watts.

You can charge with a 30W charger and even charge (slowly) with an 18W charger though if you're actively using the system it may be more a maintain-the-battery-level than actually charge.

Short answer to your question is you'll be fine. Anker makes decent products. I regularly charge my MBP M1 with a similar charger from a different brand and have been since November 2020.
