I've seen people doing it for a good amount of time now. They basically do it via AOL (Assumption Of Liability) which essentially transfers ownership of their plan/account to another person.

Why did you decide to drop your Verizon unlimited data?Curious because i am in a similar situation. I have Verizon unlimited data but considering going to T mobile to save a few bucks. Each time i try i just cannot get my self to give it up.

Samsung pay. Verizon hasn't joined in the Samsung pay and I want it. Therefore, I bought a T mobile Galaxy S6 also. The other 4 lines have only 2 GB each and with t mobile, everyone gets 10GB with no overage. And I travel often and international data is free unlimited. With Verizon, I have to pay extra for going to even Canada.

Yes you can sell it, but you lose your phone number.
There are workarounds. You can request to port your number into Google Voice which takes about 24 hours, then make the AOL change.

I've heard stories about the person receiving the account needs to be a business account, not sure if that's true though.

How much did you sell it for?

It is still going. Currently $561.

Edit. Just went up to 601

The winning bid was $715. If you have unlimited text on the plan also, you might be able to get more.
The final month's bill was not available until 4 days after the billing period ended. My buyer was very patient and cool about waiting for the process to complete. But it would have been nice if I had timed my auction end date to sync with the billing period end date.
I called Verizon and gave them the assumer's information as soon as the buyer paid.
As soon as the final month's amount was available, I paid online and let the buyer know that the balance was $0.
He then called and assumed liability of the account and he was told it could take up to 24 hours.
It is finally transferred over and he gave me the final text that it worked.

I didn't try to port my number out of Verizon to T mobile because I was afraid I might accidentally close the Verizon account. I had to let others know of my new phone number but I just didn't want to take the chance.

No idea you could do this. Very interesting and good information.
