can i switch my iphone debit over to someone else?

my brother is in the armed forces and spends most of his time in germany, and it is costing him a fortune to use his iphone for the things he needs.

one of our friends is asking to buy his iphone from him. the contract runs out in march or april 2010, so we were wondering what the options were if he were to sell the iphone to a friend?

can you switch the direct debit over to someone else?
