I am currently on travel away from my home computer. I am traveling with a spare laptop, and I was wondering...Am I able to install iTunes on that travel laptop and update my iPhone to 3.0 without it being the "normal" computer?

Thanks for the input!

I was able to do this perfectly with the GM 3.0 seed last week. It may work by simply doing "check for update", but here's what I KNOW will work:

What you want to do is download the .ipsw file manually, then option-click the "updates" button, and manually select the .ipsw file. You should be fine from there.

Yes but you may not have your apps and music until you sync with your regular PC. The update is different than in the past and the apps and music do not restore from the backup. I don't know if you can sync the apps and music to the new computer first or not. Look into that before you update.

just did this and it worked fine. everything is there, apps, contacts, mail, music etc. you don't have to do anything special, just let it prompt you for the update and apply it.
