Can I update to 4.2 through a different Mac

I'll be away from my computer for the next week but am desperately in need of 4.2 for my iPad!! Is it possible to simply update the firmware through my sister-in-law's Mac without having to sync? Thanks-

Yep, no problem. Updating and syncing are two completely different things.
