What are the benefits of the shared account? I don't want to jeopardize my unlimited account.

Dude get her off of mommy's account and go with a shared account. You get the new phone every year and she gets the hand me down. And yes, ATT has a link to transfer upgrade eligibility between the phones. But if you go with ATT Next, it's no longer an issue as both can get upgrades every twelve months (not that she'll want it)...

So I was thinking of using an upgrade from another line, and just putting my sim that is in my 5s in the new phone. I have done this with several android phones before, so would this not work for the iPhone too?

Not necessarily. My corp rep was quick to point out when I suggested as much that sim tech changes and esp between diff generations you shouldn't just sim swap. Get the new/updated sim for your phone and have the carrier make the switch for you. Per my rep anyway.

Does carrier do it or can't you just activate phone with your phone number?

If my wife is switching from iphone 4 to my 5s how can she do it without calling ATT? Can she do it through itunes or after a restore?

I've had 3g, 4s, and 5s and never had to swap sims. I forget how I activated but i think it was on phone.

You no longer need iTunes for activation. Just pop your sim in and you are good to go. It's not a BAD idea to call or chat with AT&T so they can add the new phone to your line immediately. This will eventually happen when the system refreshes, but it could take hours, days, rarely weeks, perhaps. Nthing will happen if you don't do that though.

I wasn;t referring to swapping sims for activation... you want to order a phone subsidized on another line and use it on yourown. By far, the easiest thing to do would be to to pop your own sim in. Sure youcan activate the sim the phone shipped with, but what's really the point?

Thanks. Does iphone 5s and iPhone 6/6+ use same sim size?

What do I do after I pop in the sim card from my iphone 5s on the 6+ if that is possible?

That's how I work it too.

If the wife doesn't care about the upgrade then you have them to use when you want. Better yet....get more family members on there at least 3 and work the upgrades for every year when needed. :)

I haven't really looked into that, but I can almost guarantee that yes, they do. We haven't seen anything beyond the nano sim standard, so I don't imagine they would have changed anything.

following... contacted AT&T they said I need the IMEI number but i don't have it yet since phone isn't here.

I think others are correct, I can just connect to iTunes, and activate it for my current line and it will just work. No need to contact AT&T.

Everyone remember to check your plan after activation, I have unlimited, and I've had problems where they switch me over, and I have to call and get them to revert back to my unlimited plan. Hasn't been a problem so far, but one of these days I have a feeling they're gonna give me the runaround and not change it back.
