I was going to ride with this thing until the wheels fell off and I was done buying apple products for years.....

but the magic trackpad and keyboard 2...NO MORE BATTERIES! TAKE MY MONIES APPLE!

I output the screen via hdmi to 1080p, i browse internet, listen to music, watch 8-20GB movie files over my home network.

The laptop never leaves the house, would a low end retina be sufficient even with no dedicated graphics card for my minimal use?

If your "laptop never leaves the house", why not look at something like the Mac Mini? The whole purpose of a laptop is portability. The short answer - yes, a lower end rMBP without dedicated graphics will be fine.

An iPad has enough computing power to do all that.

if I wanted a crappy tablet I would buy one.
That's besides the point.

What I meant by that is that even your current computer is grossly overpowered for your computing needs. Any present Mac you by will also be overpowered, so buy whatever you like, you will not be limited by the computer's power in your daily usage.

Given the range of machines in your signature I'm surprised you just don't have enough experience to tell, or can easily try one of your other 3 machines and see for yourself...?

Wow what **** commenters. 2011 was primary video editing, music recording, photo editing and management. 2015 mb is for portable porn, better than iOS. 2015 rMbp is my new work horse. My iMac is a gust computer slash dinner comped media center. My 2011 MBp is being replace because it doesn't have bt 4.0 which is need for the new Magic Mouse 2. I was just asking if the intergrated graphics of a retina mb would be decent for out of highbitrate full he movies. I don't want Mac mini, they are severely outdated and I like the the back of having a built in screen and keep board which have longer life because of light use as the MacBook would be clamshelled

Thank you for your kind words. If you'd bothered to type that up in your first post, then perhaps we would have answered differently.

We don't know you, we can simply assume based on what little info you give us. Need I remind you you called your own use minimal? Well your minimal use can easily by achieved by something that has the processing power of an iPad, like previously mentioned. Every answer you've gotten has been spot on in regards to the info given.
