Hey Guys,

So for the past few months I have been struggling with 1GB of available space on my 2017 MacBook Pro 128GB machine. As a new mac user I'm still getting accustomed to the whole experience. So first is it possible to upgrade the storage on this particular machine? I heard it is not really possible for the newer models like this one. If so, how exactly does one go about doing this? A link to any recommended product would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SSDs on your models aren't soldered, but those SSDs are Apple's, and they don't sell them separately. You'd need to find someone who took it out from their laptop or find compatible SSD from another brand and/or adapter. I don't know if those are available for that model.

Is yours the touchbar or non-touchbar model? If it is touchbar then no, you will not be able to upgrade your storage (it is soldered in), if it is non-touchbar then you can remove the SSD, but I am not sure where you can source an larger SSD. I’ve also read it can be difficult to remove without breaking.

Personally if you need more storage, I’d just buy a 500gb Samsung T5 SSD, or some other fast external Ssd drive. They are quite affordable now for much less effort than trying to upgrade you internal storage, even if it is possible.
