Can I use AirPods on iMac late 2009?

Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased EarPods (cable) for my iMac late 2009 (model 10,1) and the sound is very good (deep bass).
I'm interested in AirPods but I have read that they have Bluetooth 5.0 and the minimal requirement is iMac late 2012.
iMac late 2012 has Bluetooth 4.0.
My iMac has Bluetooth 2.1.
Can I use AirPods? Do I have to upgrade Bluetooth hardware to use them? Is it possible to upgrade Bluetooth card?

My 1st generation Airpods work on my late 2009 iMac. Not sure if that holds true for the more recent ones.

Can I use them with iMac late 2009 (iMac 10,1)?
I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 on that machine.
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (HW), Bluetooth 6.0.7f20 (SW), USB 2.0.
Do you have any advice based on your experiences?
I will use them especially for music.
